Important questions before registering with a football academy
A practical list to help a guardian understand the programme, cost and communication before committing.
Ask for details about the programme itself
The phrase “youth training” can be very broad. Ask about the age group for the programme in question, the nature of sessions, joining requirements and how a player moves between groups. If your child is a beginner, say so clearly to confirm that the group is suitable.
Ask who leads sessions and who replaces them when they are absent. If you are given information about coaches' qualifications, ask how to verify it rather than relying on advertising language alone.
Understand the full price
Compare the total cost for the same period, not only the prominent number in an advertisement. You may need to ask about kit, transport, tournaments or additional items. Do not assume these are included or required until the academy confirms it.
Ask for subscription, cancellation, freeze and make-up terms in writing. Keep a copy of the offer you accepted, and confirm its effective date and the branch it applies to. This is decision organization, not a legal interpretation of the contract.
Know who to contact
- Who is the designated contact for a guardian?
- How will we know if a session is postponed or its location changes?
- How are development notes shared, and when?
- How do we submit feedback or a complaint?
- Who is allowed to collect the child?
- Is photography optional, and how can I review consent?
Do not rush because of a general promise
If an offer promises guaranteed professional status or confirmed acceptance by a club, ask for written clarification of what is actually provided and who makes the selection decision. Training, a trial and selection are different stages; a subscription alone does not turn a promise into a guaranteed result.
After getting answers, discuss the option with your child. An important answer that remains unclear can be a reason to wait until you are sure, rather than deciding under pressure.
