A new-coach onboarding checklist for football academies
Good daily operations start with clear responsibilities and processes before a coach’s first session.
Define the role and boundaries
Set the assigned team, supervisor, timetable and communication channels. Explain child safeguarding, collection, photography and reporting policies. Give access only to the player records the coach needs.
Check practice, not just signatures
Ask the coach to demonstrate an assessment, explain what a guardian can see and how an AI-assisted development plan is reviewed before sharing. Follow up after the first sessions with practical questions and record any training gaps. A signed document alone does not show understanding.
A practical example
A new coach may know drills but not the access system. Before assigning a group, ask them to use an authorised test record and explain what stays private versus what a guardian sees. Review actual use during the first week.
- Set team and access scope
- Explain safeguarding route
- Review the first sessions
General educational guidance, not a child assessment, endorsement of a particular academy or promise of an outcome. Confirm current details directly with the relevant organisation and seek qualified help for health, legal or child-safety matters.
